Chief Executive Officer
Lorna is a fourteen-year veteran education administrator and the founder and CEO of edMosphere.
For nine years Lorna served as the director of a TRIO Upward Bound program that assists low-income students to be the first in their family to attend college. Lorna led the program to yield six classes where 100% of graduates enrolled in college immediately after high school. With student attrition rates consistently between 0-10%, the program received attention from the U.S. Department of Education for its innovative approaches and Lorna was selected to share best practices at national and regional TRIO conferences. Lorna also successfully administered college access and dropout prevention programs at public middle and high schools for Texas A&M University and Communities In Schools.
The “secret sauce” to Lorna’s education administration success lay in paying attention to students’ socioemotional well-being and to the overall learning environment – a concept known as school climate. Lorna approaches school climate as a condition that is created and managed, not as a by-product of circumstance. Currently many school climate measurement tools are administered once per year and engage just a sampling of students, if at all. Lorna created edMosphere as an alternative tool that harnesses the power of real-time technology to engage all students and position educators to proactively, rather than reactively, ensure a positive school climate.
Lorna is in the final stages of completing her PhD with a specialization in Educational Policy & Planning at The University of Texas at Austin. Lorna holds a BA in psychology from the University of California, San Diego and an MS in college and career counseling from San Francisco State University.
